Daycare Centers
The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) offers various childcare options for children from the age of 8 weeks until they start school. The daycare centers are located at different sites and are operated by recognized providers.
Registration
The service agreement defines which groups of employees are eligible to apply for a childcare place. Applicants must have an employment contract with KIT that extends for at least six more months at the time of application and a working time of at least 30% of a full-time position.
The following groups are eligible to apply for a childcare place:
- Full professors
- Civil servants
- Employees covered by a collective agreement
- Apprentices
- Doctoral candidates and individuals who have been admitted to a doctoral program at a faculty
In addition, a limited number of childcare places may be allocated to visiting researchers and members of the Executive Board, where required.

FlexiKids Emergency Childcare
NEW – Now Also Available at Campus North
The FlexiKids programme supports KIT employees when regular childcare arrangements become unavailable at short notice or when work commitments require extended or non-standard working hours. FlexiKids helps families bridge resulting childcare gaps in a flexible and reliable way, even at very short notice.
Babysitter Service
NEW - Even More Flexibility in Childcare
KIT employees can now benefit from the HalloBabysitter babysitting service as an additional childcare resource. The platform connects families with a large pool of babysitters and caregivers. Registration and access are free of charge for KIT employees.
Parent-Child Office
The parent-child office on the North Campus offers a work opportunity and at the same time a childcare solution. It is available to all KIT employees who need short-term care for their child or children. A changing table and a crib are available. There are also toys for different age groups and a play castle with a cozy corner.
The parent-child office is located in FTU building 101, close to the nanos! daycare center, outside the KIT's restricted area.

KidsBox
Mobile Childcare at Work
The KidsBox is a flexible mobile childcare solution for babies and children up to primary school age. It allows parents to bring their children to work when unexpected childcare needs arise. By providing a child-friendly environment, KidsBox helps employees manage both work and family responsibilities more effectively.
Childminder Referral
To bridge short-term, longer-term or temporary childcare needs, there is the possibility of finding a childminder. If required, please contact us personally and we will try to find a suitable solution together.
Events for Children at KIT
Every year, there are several interesting events for children, such as the KIT Children’s University, the Science Camp, and programs offered by the Equal Opportunity Office, such as computer courses for female students and Girls’ Day.
Studying with a Child
The Karlsruhe Student Services Organization offers counseling and support for students with children.
School Holiday Care
The Office for Equal Opportunity organizes childcare programs throughout the year during all school holidays in Baden-Württemberg for school-age children (ages 6 to 14) of KIT employees and students.

- Computer Science (Building 50.34) - ladies' toilet in the basement
- Mechanical Engineering (Building 10.23) - disabled toilet on the ground floor
Breastfeeding facilities

- Mathematics (Building 20.30) - parent-child room on the 3rd floor (only for faculty members)
